Masters Competition

Are you 30 years of age or older? Are you fit or do you want to get fit? Do you enjoy being active down at the beach? Are you breathing?

If your answer to all or any of the questions above is yes, then we have a spot for you in the Williamstown Masters Competition team.

Masters Competition

Masters Competition is a range of surf lifesaving sporting events that are targeted at the more mature athletes (anyone over 30), where we get to compete against athletes in a similar age range to ourselves.

There are individual events for each age group and there are team events where the ages of the athletes are combined.

For example:

Beach Sprint Event:

Age Bracket = 30-34;35-39;40-44;45-49;50-54;55-59;60-64;65-69;70-74;75-79;80-84;85-89 etc. and there are medals for top 3 and club points on offer for top 6 for each age bracket.

Some of the age brackets are run together to make up numbers but each age bracket has its own medals and points.

For the beach sprint relay (team event):

Combined age bracket = 120-139;140-159;160-179;180-199;200-219;220-239;240-259 etc and so on.

And for each age bracket there are medals for top 3 and club points for top 6.

The events that a Masters athlete can compete in range from swimming (including events like tube race), board paddling (including board rescue), ski paddling (including iron), running (distance, sprints and flags) and surf boats.

The Lifesaving Victoria Masters Championships is held in February in Lorne every year and is a great weekend away for all athletes and their families.

It is a requirement that the athlete competing does have their Bronze Medallion qualification. Don’t worry if you don’t have it yet, as the club will be putting on a Bronze Medallion course. I can explain more about this to you if you are interested (see contact details below).

The Lorne Masters Championships always ends up being a fantastic social weekend away for all us more mature athletes, and we will also have several great social functions in the lead up to the Championships. So if you want to try something different, why not take advantage of all that our great club and surf lifesaving in general has to offer and get involved?
