our local life saving club

looking out for our community and each other for  over 100 years.

Since 1920, williamstown swimming and life saving club (WSLSC) has proudly served our community.

our club provides life saving, education and events, all delivered by our dedicateD and generous crew of patrollers and volunteers.

our mission is to create an inclusive, safe, and healthy community for all.

and everyone is welcome to become a member.

keeping beachgoers
safe is just
the start.

life saving is our number one priority, but our club also plays an invaluable role in protecting the health and mental wellbeing of our members, through fitness classes, training & education, schools programs,  events, and more.

  • Through Life Saving Victoria we have responsibilities under the State Emergency Management Plan. these include the coastal waters around Williamstown, supporting Victoria Police in undertaking search and rescue in Hobson’s Bay, And through our jetski rescue service, our patrolling remit extends right across Port Phillip Bay.

And through our programs such as Nippers, junior competitions, schools programs and community water safety education, our club plays a role in passing on essential water skills that last a lifetime.

  • Join Melbourne's most popular Nippers program! Last season we had over 400 registered Nippers and 19 registered Starfish Nippers, the biggest enrolment of a Bayside club in Victoria. Nippers teaches water safety skills to kids in groups from Under 6 to Under 13s. For kids of all abilities, our bespoke Starfish program tailors water safety with a higher ratio of supervisors to participants. Find out more by emailing our Nippers team:

dive into nippers ‘24/25: 10 nov - 16 feb

nippers is on every Sunday morning from 9am - 10:30am. Starfish Nippers runs from 10am - 11. During the sessions kids are taught from the SLSA Surf Education Program, which covers Safety, Surf Awareness, Rescues, First Aid & Resuscitation, Communication, and Teamwork. The activities are designed to provide Nippers the skills to be safe around open water and prepare them to complete their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC).

the success of our nippers programs are dependant on the support of volunteers and sponsors from the community - and we thank all parents in advance for signing up for the duty roster at the start of the season.
