who can compete

The Junior competition team representing WSLSC at Lifesaving carnivals over the 2024-25 season is for U8-U13 year old competitors. 

The age group for a competitor for the 2024/25 season is determined by how old they are on the 30 of September 2024.

current age 7 years old: compete as UNDER 8
current age 8 years old: compete as UNDER 9
current age 9 years old: compete as U/10
current age 10 years old: compete as U/11
current age 11 years old: compete as U/12
current age 12 years old: compete as U/13

overview of events

events are mainly divided into Beach Events and Water Events:

Beach events include:
• Long Run (individual)
• Beach Sprint (90m)
• Beach Relay (beach sprint x 4 competitors) • Flags and Belt and Reel (U12 & U13 only). 

Water Events include:
• surf race & surf teams (swimming)
• board race (Kracker or Foamie board paddling)
• board relay (3 x board paddlers)
• board rescue (1 x swimmer, 1 x board paddler)
• wade race & wade relay (U9-U11)
• Aqua Cameron (1 swimmer, 1 board paddler, 2 x beach sprinters U12 & U13) 

March Past is a traditional event held only at states. teams Consist of 12 members (U12 & U13) who march whilst holding the Belt & Reel around a quadrangle established on the beach. Teams are evaluated for their ability to march in time.

when is training?

trainING OCCURS with/or at the same time as the Youth/Senior competition team (U14/U15). 

Beach Events training is held on Wednesday nights from 5.15 – 6.15pm on the sand/ footpath outside the SLSC.

Water Events training is held on Monday nights from 5.00pm – 6.15pm at Williamstown beach. All team members are to arrive and be in wetsuits with boards ready by 5.00pm to commence the warm-up in the water.

optional Sunday sessions are scheduled throughout the season, and are held at Williamstown Beach or down the coast for some waves practice.

costs

annual WSLSC membership – this varies depending on the type of membership you take out. 

Competition Training Team Levy $50 – to pay for the specialist coaches the club brings in for expert tuition periodically. 

Carnival fees - $40 per carnival. This fee is levied by LifeSaving Victoria (LSV). 

communication

Communications for the Nipper/Youth competition team will be via the WSLSC TeamApp.

Parents of competitors will be given access to the Nipper Access group and/or Youth Access group.
